The Code is the law the animals of Bravelands follow.

Description[]

The animals of Bravelands live by one code: Only Kill to Survive. They may, therefore, only kill to eat or defend themselves. Breaking The Code is taboo; only crocodiles and the odd rogue animal don't keep to it. Even those animals who don't follow the Great Mother, like the lions, keep to The Code. However, some animals have broken the code like the ones listed below. 

Known Code-breakers[]

  • The Crownguard (Attacked a troop of Vervet Monkeys behind Berry Crownleaf's back, usurped the latter, and had her banished alongside Thorn for their defiance)
  • Bloodheart Pack (Killed multiple animals for their hearts)
  • Creeper (Killed Tendril Deeproot, abandoned Seedling, usurped Berry Crownleaf, and aligned himself with Titan)
  • Crookedtree Troop (Attacked the Dawntrees Troop to spite Thorn and attempting to murder Dawntrees's infants)
  • Fearless (Killed Sleekfriend and wasting his body, under Titan's order)
  • Nut (Endangered Mud)
  • Plunge's herd (Killed Tear and several unnamed crocodile hatchlings in retaliation for the death of a juvenile herd mate falsely believed to be caused by Muddy River Bask)
  • Rend (Betrayed and usurped Tear and allied himself with Titan)
  • A pod of hippos (Killed the crocodiles in revenge for Great Mother's death)
  • Stinger (Killed Bark, Grub, Marula, Starleaf and Frog)
  • The Strongbranches (Assisted Stinger despite knowing full well that he was a criminal. Killing the Starleaf and attempting to murder Thorn and Nut)
  • Stronghide (Killed Great Mother)
  • Tendril (Killed Pear Goodleaf; attacked the Dawntrees Troop while attempting to murder the troop's infants)
  • Titanpride (Killed animals without eating them, under Titan's order)
  • Titan (Killed Gallant and Dauntless; commanded his pride that each lion must make one kill a day and leaving some animals not to be eaten. Also killed Mighty Mightypride and ate his heart)
  • Some of the vervets (Killed Fig.)
  • Burbark Silverback (For killing Cassava and aligning himself with the Sandtounge Speakers. Though he was (and still is) under Grandmothers control when he did the acts and had no choice)
  • Range (For killing Prowl, and betraying Chase and Seek. Though Range was also mind-controlled by Grandmother)
  • Grandmother (Invaded the Mountain, Poisoned and mind-controlled several animals and forcing them to break the code on her behalf)
  • Holler (Killed and Usurped his brother as leader as well as sending Gutripper’s Clan against Echo)
  • Quake (Trapped, Whisper and Murmur in a pool of quicksand and left the pair for dead)
  • Bold (TotP) (Killed all the cubs in Gutripper’s Clan)
