Tear was Rip's son,[1] and predecessor of the Muddy River Bask,[citation needed] before he was killed by a vengeful Plunge. After Tear's death, he was succeeded by his father, Rip.

The Spirit-Eaters[]
Tear does not formally appear, but he is mentioned by Rip to have been the former leader of his bask, before he was killed by Plunge, who falsely believed that Tear and his float were responsible for the death of a juvenile member of his herd. The crocs threaten to kill Plunge and his herd in retaliation, if Thorn refuses to help them. Not wanting unnecessary bloodshed to occur, Thorn agrees to reason with Plunge and his followers.
