River Marcher was the late lover of Rock and Boulder. She died while trying to stop the two from fighting when she fell down the ravine.

Shifting Shadows[]
River is mentioned by Boulder when he told Sky how Both he and Rock wanted River to be their life-mate. As was the custom, they fought an honorable combat for River's love. But River loved both of them. As the fight ensued, however, Rock realized he was going to lose and lost control of himself. He killed River by shoving her to the ravine to her death. This incident led to Rock's banishment.
The Spirit-Eaters[]
In the Spirit-Eaters, it's revealed that Rock didn't actually kill River despite being in the rage at the time. River unintentionally died trying to save Rock and Boulder from falling to their deaths themselves. Rock only pushed her because he (along with Boulder) was unaware of his surroundings and River was behind him when she rushed to intervene with the bulls' duel. When she was about to fall in the ravine herself, she called Rock and Boulder for help. This causes Boulder and Rock to snap out of their rage and Rock responded by attempting to save her by reaching out to her with his trunk but River lost her grip fell into the ravine he could.
Sky confronts Boulder with her findings, angry that he lied to her. Boulder explain that he only did so to protect her as he wasn't entirely convinced that Rock wasn't at fault. Sky reminds her brother that she can take care of herself. Boulder also apologizes to the Marchers for his role in River' death (As he unintentionally caused Rock to push River during their duel). But Mahangy Marcher reassures Boulder that it was really the ravine that took River's life. Following her reunion with Rock, Sky appologizes to Rock for blaming him for River's death.
Oathkeeper[]
After Sky asks Rock if they could be mates again, Sky fears that Boulder might have trouble accepting Rock as his brother-in-law due to Rock's role in River's death. However Boulder has forgiven Rock for the incident regarding River's death.
