The Crownguard was created by the late Berry Crownleaf to protect herself, Thorn stated that it was too much like the Strongbranch rank. Thorn's beliefs about the Crownguard being no better than the Strongbranches was later proven to be true in The Spirit-Eaters when they go behind Berry's back to perform their schemes knowing full well she wouldn't approve. When Creeper confesses to having killed Tendril who was still nursing her infant, Berry proceeds to exile him along with the rest of the Crownguard. They instead turn on her and Thorn, forcing them to flee and live in exile.[1] The Crownguard were revealed to have survived the fire. The eventually ally themselves with Wolfpride. In the battle against Titan, they along with Titan and the rest of his associates were killed and their rank is abolished.
