Chase, or Chase Born of Prowl, is a female leopard, and one of the three main protagonists in the second arc.
Personality[]
Chase is a fierce leopardess. She thinks somewhat highly of herself as she bragged to Bramble about how superior her night vision is compared to the ape's and referred to him as a stinky gorilla. However, Chase isn't too arrogant and looks down on Shadow for his self-centeredness. However, Chase and Shadow warm up towards one another after he expresses sympathy for Prowl's death. Chase also has a compassionate side as she chose to assist Bramble when a pack of hyenas were attacking him, despite knowing it would disappoint her mother. Chase cares deeply for her family as she was devastated when her mother was killed and subsequently took full custody of her younger cousin. After being rescued Range, Chase grew to like and trust the latter. She also blamed Burbarktroop for Prowl's death. However Chase realized that this was not the case when she and Seek discovered that Range was in league with the Sand-Toungue speakers. Realizing that Range was at fault for her mother's demise, Chase subsequently fled with Seek. When Seek is captured by the Sandtounge, Chase is determined to rescue him, going as far to surrender her freedom to ensure Shadow and Ribsnapper, make it out with Seek in their posse. Unbeknown to the Sandtounge Cult, Chase is immune to Grandmother's mind-control but keeps that a secret to trick her captors into thinking they still have the upper-hand. However Grandmother soon catches on to Chases ruse and convinces her to kill Prance by using Shadow and Seek as leverage. When Chase finds Prance she reluctantly attacks the Gazelle but Chases assassination attempt is soon thwarted by Gallant who drives Chase away, but not before she learns that Prance is the Great-Mother.
When Menace entrusts Chase with the responsibility to escorting Terror back to Gallantpride, Chase is initially reluctant due to her inability to keep Shadow and Seek safe from Grandmother. However, Chase soon gives in after realizing that Terror has nowhere else to go and unable to survive to Sandtounge alone. After Menace sacrifices herself to buy Chase and Terror time to escape the horde of serpents.
Biography[]
Shadows on the Mountain[]
Chase was trying to hunt a lovebird, until she crashes into Bramble as he was trying to scare it off by pretending to be a lion. Chase demands Bramble to tell her what his business is. Bramble responds that the leopardess has no right to boss him around but misidentifies her as a lion. Chase corrects Bramble by revealing herself to be a leopardess and thinks Bramble is a fool for mistaking her for a lion. She then explains that lions aren't native to the mountains they reside in. Bramble claims that he knew that and suggests that Chase had never seen a member of his species before. But Chase informs Bramble that she knows what his people are as she's seen them several times but had never encountered a gorilla that was awake before since leopards are nocturnal while gorillas are diurnal. Bramble then accuses Chase of cowardice if she is nocturnal. Chase explains that leopards aren't nocturnal because their shy but because they have better night vison than "a stinky gorilla". Bramble trades insults by accusing Chase of being stinky. Chase doesn't let Bramble get to her; Instead, she introduces herself as Chase, Born of Prowl and calls Bramble a baby. Bramble then introduces himself but lies that he is a Silverback in order to portray himself as tough to the leopardess. Chase is skeptical of the idea of Bramble being a Silverback since he is not yet full-grown. But before Bramble could respond, the pair are interrupted by a high snarl.
The pair soon find themselves confronted by a hyena clan. The hyenas mock the young animals reveal their intent to kill them and eat their flesh. Chase snarls at the pack and climbs up a tree to save herself. Since Chase is no longer within the pack's reach, the pack shift their focus completely on Bramble. Bramble attempts to climb up the same tree that's currently hosting Chase, but Bramble cannot outrun the hyenas, and when he makes it to the tree trunk, he struggles to hold on before his leg is caught in one of the hyenas' jaws. When Bramble is on the brink of death, Chase considers helping him even though her mother wouldn't approve of Chase risking her life; Even if it were to save another animal.

Chase assists Bramble by helping him fend off the Hyenas.
Chase, however, doesn't have to heart to leave Bramble for dead, so she intervenes. After the clan surrenders, Bramble thanks Chase. But Chase claims that she didn't assist him for his benefit in order to hide her compassionate side. Chase then suggests that they should return to their families and Bramble agrees and their pair bid each other farewell. Chase then reveals in her mental notes that she herself hasn't been complete honest on her personal encounters with Bramble's species. In reality, Chase had only caught brief glimpses of gorillas and didn't see them all the time. When Chase returns to her leap, she is forced to her mother explain that her compassion towards Bramble is what caused to returned empty-jawed. Prowl is dismayed by this and insists that Chase should leave and not return until she finds something for their leap to eat. Chase manages to find and hunt down a bongo before seeking out a tree to cache the carcass. When Chase finds a tree, she attempts to drag her bongo up but she loses her grip and falls. Chase is subsequently greeted by Shadow Born of Stealth. Shadow mockingly asks if Chase needs help with her prey but Chase stubbornly refuses the "help" of the arrogant young male insisting that she can drag her prey herself. However Chase keeps on falling after several attempts so she gives in and asks Shadow how he can help her. Shadow however, claims that because he was at the tree first anything residing in it is his including Chases prey. This causes Chase to storm off with the bongo carcass in tow and instead seeks out a new tree to cache to bongo.

Chase with Her Kill
However, Chase decides to bring her prey back to her den so to save herself time and energy into finding a new tree to store her kill. Back at the den, she allows her mother and Seek to feast on the bongo's remains.

With her immunity to Grandmother's venom weakening, Chase sneaks off to a nearby river to meet Seek and Shadow who have been smuggling the rotten meat into the Sandtounge Cult's territory. Shadow and Seek beg Chase to escape with them. Chase states that she wants to remain with Grandmother's thralls a bit longer as the Massive Serpent had already been discussing her plans to invade the plains and Chase wants more information.
