Breathstealer - formerly known as Tailgrabber, is a female Hyena and a protagonist in Bravelands: Thunder on the Plains.

As Tailgrabber, Breathstealer wanted to bring peace between her clan and Noblepride.

When acting as a host for the Great Devourer, Breathstealer loses control of her own, voice, thoughts, and body and gains the ability to see souls. Her jaw extends, her teeth and legs lengthen, and paws and claws turn black and slowly rot. Blood comes out of her eyes, nose, and ears.

Personality

Unlike most of her clan, Breathstealer is an advocate of peace as she did not support the never ending feud with Noblepride. Even so Breathstealer does have her limits and is capable of holding grudges. For example, Breathstealer did not grant Bold mercy after killing the cubs of her former clan (one of which was Breathstealer’s nephew).

Starting off as "Cub", she is hunting an impala with her clanmates. When she managed to get close, the impala jinks at the last second, forcing her to latch on the only available body part she could get, its tail. Thus, she earned the name "Tailgrabber", much to her disappointment and the other hyenas' amusement.

Gutripper

Breathstealer is the daughter of the clan matriarch, Gutripper. After having a vision of her mother in a fire, she worries for her and risks returning to Gutripper's Clan to warn her. Despite Breathstealer's unwelcome return and Gutripper's dismissive attitude, her mother lets her stay the night in the male's den. As Breathstealer sneaks out to check on her mother, she sees that Gutripper posted a guard by her den showing that took her daughter's warning seriously. After Gutripper's death, the Great Devourer offers Breathstealer the oppurtunity to resurrect her mother. Breathstealer turns down the offer believing that life will be calmer without her. During Nosebiter's matriarch ritual, Breathstealer is reminded of Gutripper's ceremony and remembers her and her sister as cubs playing along with the ceremony.

Nosebiter

Nosebiter is Breathstealer's sister that deeply cares about her. Despite Nosebiter being a more respected clan member than Breathstealer, she still deeply cares and listens to Breathstealer. As such the sisters share secrets between each other, for instance Breathstealer's visions, and Nosebiter admitting the loss of her son and revealing her mate's name. After Breathstealer was exiled from the clan, Nosebiter took upon her one last favor and kills Skullcracker to defend Breathstealer. After Breathstealer's return to the clan and their mother dies, the sisters grow closer once more. Being allowed to participate in the election of a new matriarch, Breathstealer casts the tiebreaking vote in favor of Nosebiter. With Nosebiter as the new matriarch, she aids Breathstealer by making her part of her council and trusts in her connection to the Great Devourer.
